Bayshore Sunglasses

As we squint while driving and try to dodge behind the protection of our vehicle’s sun visor, when the sun is high in the sky, the air conditioner or fan is running at maximum capacity and the thermometer has reached the top of the marker, is the most common time we remember to wear our sunglasses. However, we forget the sun’s damaging UV rays are present regardless of the time of year, season or temperature. Or perhaps you have lost, misplaced or broken your beloved pair of sunglasses and need a fashionable upgrade. Bayshore Eyeglass Store

Prescription Glasses 11706

At our Bayshore eyeglass store, we explains to all our patients that unlike an eye test, an optical prescription is not a straight measurement of your ability to see. It does not compare eyesight with someone who has perfect vision, the way an eye chart does. Instead, the numbers on your prescription are the specific power that is needed to correct your vision to normal. Basically, with an accurate optical prescription, corrective lenses in your glasses bend the light rays to focus more directly onto your retina. The amount of correction necessary is written as your prescription and is what is used to correct your vision.

If you wear glasses, you certainly know they help you to see better, but you may not know how they specifically correct your vision. Whether for nearsightedness or farsightedness, eyeglasses work in the same way. When the lens in your eyeglass is curved, it bends the light rays that hit your eyes, so you can see images clearly. The experts at our Bayshore eyeglass store, Vision Center, wants all of our patients to know that understanding how glasses correct your vision, begins with a basic understanding of how your eye works. At the back of your eye is your retina, which is a layer of cells that reacts to light. The reaction is sent to your brain, and your brain translates the cells activity into an image, or the thing that you actually see.

When you look at something, the light rays focus inside your eye, or come together. When you have perfect vision, the light rays focus directly on to the surface of your retina. Because the retina is curved, the image must also shrink, and needs to be curved, because the retina is curved. Your pupil and cornea are responsible for shrinking, focusing, and curving the image and if any of them have any irregularities, your vision becomes blurry. Eyeglass lenses are curved pieces of glass and the curvature of the lens bends the light rays as they move towards your eye. This helps the rays focus on your retina, instead of behind it or in front of it. Statistics show that over 160 million people in the United States alone wear corrective lenses and perfect vision is very rare. If you’re one of those 160 million people, come down to our Bayshore eyeglass store and shop for a new pair of eyeglasses to improve your daily vision.

Think about it: if your optical prescription is inaccurate, should you be driving? You can be putting others at risk by operating a vehicle without your vision being perfectly clear. In fact, you should not be really doing much of anything if your vision is not in tact as it normally is with a proper prescription. In addition, if you are using glasses or contact lenses with an inaccurate prescription, you can potentially damage your eyes and make your vision even worse. Using a prescription that is incorrect makes your eye muscles work harder than they should, causing eye strain. With eye strain often comes headaches and other uncomfortable symptoms. This can easily be avoided by visiting our Farmingdale optical store regularly for a comprehensive eye exam and adjustment of your prescription if necessary. How often you need to visit us for a check on your prescription depends on the individual. For younger patients that are still in school, you should visit us at least once a year as you are likely to have more frequent changes in your prescription. As you grow a bit older, you can usually visit us a little more sparingly, but this must be under the advisement of the experts at our Farmingdale optical store. For patients over the age of 60, the visits should go back to at least once a year, as changes in vision are likely to occur again.

If you are interested in learning more about your eye health and the related services available to you at our Farmingdale optical store, we encourage you to visit the Vision Center website. There you can find additional information about these topics and more. Should you have any questions or concerns that you feel we can help you with, do not hesitate in contacting us either by phone or online. We hope to see you soon at Vision Center.

Bay Shore Eyeglass Store

Bay Shore Eyeglass Store

Our optical departments at Vision Centers of Long Island and Queens take pride in offering top quality, high fashion frames and the latest in lens technology to patients with all different budgets and price ranges.

If you are getting glasses for the first time or changing your prescription, please allow two to three weeks for your eyes to adjust to the new lenses. Many times, our patients will complain of mild dizziness, headaches, or even slight nausea while their eyes adjust to their new glasses, but all of these symptoms are normal. If they persist however, please contact our Bay Shore eyeglass store. Often times, our patients will put off updating their optical prescription, which means for months, their eyes have adjusted to using a weaker prescription and not seeing clearly. When their prescription is finally updated, it may seem as though their vision is “too perfect,” their optical prescription “too strong,” but given a couple of weeks, your eyes will adjust to the higher lenses prescribed by your Bay Shore optometrist at Vision Center.

When you do need a new optical prescription that doesn’t mean you’ll need a new eyeglass frame as well. Though many patients of Vision Center use the opportunity to getting new lenses to shop for new designer eyewear in our Bay Shore optical store, we can often reuse your current frames. Depending on the kind of frame and the condition, our opticians can asses their suitability for reuse. Metal eyeglass frames normally have a two-year life span, but new eyeglass materials have increased the longevity of eyewear products, so reusing your frames may be an option.
