When it comes to eye care, why entrust your vision and the well-being of your eyes to just anyone? In the same way that you are careful to select your primary doctor, dentists, and other specialists, so it is with your optometrist. At Vision Center, we are committed to your eye health and to helping you see your very best, all the time. With our experience and high level of professionalism, you can feel completely confident with us. Unlike some large chains, our Bayshore optometrist treats you like the unique and valued individual that you are. You won’t feel like a number here, and our approach is personal, not assembly line. We want each and every one of our clients to feel at home and comfortable here.

Of course, you can get your yearly comprehensive eye exam done by our Bayshore optometrist. The fundamentals of excellent eye care lie in regular checkups. There are two very good reasons for this. First, your vision changes constantly. If you’ve never worn corrective lenses before, you may be able to benefit from them now. And if you do wear eyeglasses or contact lenses already, you may be in need of an update for your prescription. Seeing just okay should not be good enough. We want you to achieve the highest level of eyesight that you’re capable of having. The second reason is that common eye diseases, such as glaucoma and cataracts, form and progress without revealing any symptoms for you to identify that something is wrong. Very often, by the time you notice something unusual, it’s because you have suffered some degree of eye damage or vision loss, either of which might not be reversible. Early detection is strongly associate with the best outcomes.

Our Bayshore optometrist is also pleased to offer services such as vision therapy and neuro-optometric rehabilitation. When we refer to vision therapy, we mean addressing visual problems that cannot be treated with glasses or contacts. And if you experience symptoms such as headaches, difficulties maintaining your balance, dizziness, sensitivity to light, fatigue, and double vision due to traumatic brain injury, we can help to offer relief with neuro-optometric rehabilitation. We provide a full range of vital eye care services to make certain that your every eye-related need is taken care of.

As we squint while driving and try to dodge behind the protection of our vehicle’s sun visor, when the sun is high in the sky, the air conditioner or fan is running at maximum capacity and the thermometer has reached the top of the marker, is the most common time we remember to wear our sunglasses. However, we forget the sun’s damaging UV rays are present regardless of the time of year, season or temperature. Eye Care in Bayshore

Vision Center’s Bayshore Optical Store offers patients thorough examinations which include evaluation with a refraction, slit lamp, intraocular pressure and retinal exam. Regular visits ensure the early detection of any problems and may increase the number of available treatment options should a need arise. While many thorough examinations may take place in an hour or less, individual needs may vary.

We are also proud to offer an advanced digital retinal exam called EyeScreen from Canon. This exam allows us to address concerns that may cause a decrease in vision or potential blindness including; macular degeneration, glaucoma, retinal holes, detachments, and diabetic retinopathy, by producing a high resolution image which may be documented, reviewed and compared with other exams over time. Our pediatric patients will receive the same level of care as adults, but in a lighthearted and fun atmosphere. The staff at the Vision Center’s Bayshore Optical Store will work closely with your child’s pediatrician or primary physician to ensure their eyes are healthy. Being able to meet the visual demands of the classroom and school environment are especially critical for our pediatric patients and we realize the importance of your child’s eye care.

Whether patients need contact lenses following our exam or eyewear in the form of high fashion or designer frames, Vision Center’s Bayshore Optical Store has a number of options. Our optical department offers a wide range of lenses, frames and sunglasses. We also offer eyeglass repair. Walk-in customers are welcome, but to make an appointment, please call 631-666-9595. Bay Shore Eyeglass Store

Bay Shore Eyeglass Store

Our optical departments at Vision Centers of Long Island and Queens take pride in offering top quality, high fashion frames and the latest in lens technology to patients with all different budgets and price ranges.

If you are getting glasses for the first time or changing your prescription, please allow two to three weeks for your eyes to adjust to the new lenses. Many times, our patients will complain of mild dizziness, headaches, or even slight nausea while their eyes adjust to their new glasses, but all of these symptoms are normal. If they persist however, please contact our Bay Shore eyeglass store. Often times, our patients will put off updating their optical prescription, which means for months, their eyes have adjusted to using a weaker prescription and not seeing clearly. When their prescription is finally updated, it may seem as though their vision is “too perfect,” their optical prescription “too strong,” but given a couple of weeks, your eyes will adjust to the higher lenses prescribed by your Bay Shore optometrist at Vision Center.

When you do need a new optical prescription that doesn’t mean you’ll need a new eyeglass frame as well. Though many patients of Vision Center use the opportunity to getting new lenses to shop for new designer eyewear in our Bay Shore optical store, we can often reuse your current frames. Depending on the kind of frame and the condition, our opticians can asses their suitability for reuse. Metal eyeglass frames normally have a two-year life span, but new eyeglass materials have increased the longevity of eyewear products, so reusing your frames may be an option.

When perusing our designer eyewear and sunglass collections at Vision Center, you may notice that we carry an extensive line of boutique eyewear designers and not any old licensed brand. We have found that boutique eyewear designers offer quality materials and superior value, whereas more streamlined and “budget” eyewear is made of poor materials with very basic and unappealing design. Our commitment is to providing the latest in eyewear trends, but also to sell it all for a fair price that’ll work with any budget.

Bayshore Eye Care

Featuring state of the art equipment and staffing friendly optometrists, Vision Center offers eye care to all ages, from infants to adolescents to adults. We provide Bayshore eye exams that are suitable to child and assess the healthy development of their eye sight. It is suggested that child receive a comprehensive eye exam at least once a year and their annual school vision screening is a poor substitute to visiting a licensed optometrist. While vision screenings at school may detect common refractive problems like nearsightedness or farsightedness, they may not catch everything including astigmatism or blurred vision. These eye problems need to be properly diagnosed during a comprehensive eye exam with at trained professional at any of our five Vision Center locations through out Long Island and Queens.

Contact Lenses Long Island

Contact Lenses Long Island

For millions, contact lenses provide a safe and effective alternative to eyeglasses. Like the proper fit of shoes, contacts must be expertly fitted for cornea health and comfort with a Contact Lens Exam at one of our 5 Vision Center locations in Long Island. It’s important to remember: one contact lens size doesn’t fit all, which is why you should visit your Long Island eye doctor for a proper examination and fitting. If the curvature of a contact lens is too flat or too steep for your eye’s shape, you could experience corneal discomfort or even eye damage.

Long Island Contact Lenses

Long Island Contact Lenses

During an eye exam fitting at a Long Island Vision Center, you will be asked general questions about your lifestyle and preferences regarding contact lenses, such as whether you’re involved in sports or if you’re interested in options such as daily disposable lenses or overnight (extended) wear. Your Greenlawn eye doctor may also discuss the option of rigid gas permeable (RGP or GP) contact lenses. Although most people today are fitted with soft lenses, some patients with high amounts of astigmatism or other irregular corneal conditions benefit from the high degree of vision correction offered by GP lenses.

Your eye doctor may ask you about how you might want to correct vision problems related to aging. At about age 40 or maybe older, you may develop a condition known as presbyopia that decreases your ability to see clearly at close distances. To correct presbyopia, your eye doctor at Moriches Vision Center may offer you the choice of multifocal or bifocal contact lenses or monovision. With monovision one contact lens corrects for near vision and the other contact lens corrects for distance vision.

To fit your contacts, the doctor or contact lens technician will use an instrument called a keratometer to measure the curvature of your eye’s clear front surface called the cornea. These measurements or K-readings help your eye professional determine the proper curve and size for your contact lenses. Some types of contact lens fitting require that your Whitestone eye doctor knows the size of your pupils in different lighting conditions as well as the diameter of your cornea. Pupil and iris measurements help achieve a proper sizing and orientation of your contact lens.

For the last part of your Long Island contact lens exam, the health of your cornea will be evaluated using a biomicroscope or slit lamp. This information is critical for determining the type of contact lens & wear schedule, as well as establish a baseline for your doctor to evaluate any future changes to your eyes related to contact lens wear.
